The calligraphy in the collection is spectacularly beautiful, and this suite receives special decoration. The suite includes four dances, allemande, gigue, courante, and sarabande. This toccata is the fifth of the six toccatas in Froberger's Libro quarto of 1656, a collection of keyboard works dedicated to Ferdinand III, the Hapsburg Emperor. This toccata is another of Froberger's elevation toccatas. The elevation toccatas were intended for use during the portion of the Catholic mass when communion is raised in the air for presentation to the congregation. ⇒ 10 more: Oboe 1, 2 • Clarinet 1, 2 (in B♭) • Bassoon 1, 2 • Horn 1, 2 (in F) • Trumpet 1, 2 (in B♭) • Timpani, Triangle, Tambourine • Violins I, II • Violas • Cellos • Basses IMSLP 2013-07-07 Category:Froberger, Johann Jacob – IMSLP/Petrucci Music Library: Free Public Domain Sheet Music.
